I'm currently exhibiting work in two galleries this summer. One is Gallery 446 in Palm Springs, CA. Take a look at my abstract nature images. The second is at Orange County Center for Contemporary Art in Santa Ana, CA, where my still life dog skull is featured.

Sometimes life throws you a surprise. I have been unable to teach my in-the-field workshops lately, so I've been setting up still lifes to keep my photo skills sharp and keep myself occupied. I decided to do a series on things I have found out in the woods in the San Jacinto mountians. Animal skulls, rusted cans, scorched rocks and dead flowers. Want to take a look? Here's the link.

I'm looking forward to the completely redesigned website where I teach online photography lessons, The Compelling Image, which will launch soon. The new site will be interactive with Skype discussions and an open enrollment format. Stay tuned...

Everybody And Their Mother - Idyllwild, CA Volume 2, my long-term project of environmental portraits of the inhabitants of a quirky mountain village in Southern California will be released at the end of summer. Full color, 152 pages, and only 300 printed. Part of the proceeds will be given to an Idyllwild Arts Academy student in the form of a scholarship fund. Volume #1 was a big success and I was able to start the Gina Genis Scholarship Fund. Thank you to all who made this possible by purchasing a book. Please consider ordering Volume 2 so I can keep the scholarship fund going.

Here's a link to a review of my new book "Everybody And Their Mother - Idyllwild, CA Volume 1 in the Press Enterprise.

The opening for June Gloom - Memories from the Past, at the Porter Butts Gallery at the University of Wisconsin, Madison,  on June 4th went very well. The exhibit took two full days to install. There are 172 postcards individually hanging from the ceiling of the gallery. Visitors walk through the aisles to view the fronts of the images.  All were photographed between May and October of 2009 along the coastline of Southern California.  They can then read the back of each card, which contains memories from growing up on the beaches of Southern California.

Dave Barton, of OC Weekly wrote about Gina's work in the Laguna Art Museum: "The Pack Rat and Lives Lived In Cubes, Gina Genis' voyeuristic photos of isolated senior citizens seen through their kitchen and balcony windows, are at once chillingly immediate and distancing, forcing us to acknowledge the subjects’ solitude."
